Something to Shrove

I was asked what I was going to do for pancake day yesterday.
"Eat pancakes?" I offered.
"But they don't have pancake day over here." responded the respondent.

I'm currently in Australia, you see. It's possible that they don't have pancake day. Do they care? Are they any worse off?

"Pancake day is more a state of mind." I said to my inquisitive little friend.
"lol." They said (this being an online conversation) "No, it's Shrove Tuesday."

I often forget that there are reasons behind some of our vaguely religious sponsored holidays. We, apparently, eat pancakes on that particular Tuesday to use up all of the fat and cream in the house before lent. Personally, I always thought it was 'cos we enjoyed flipping pancakes (I will allow that sentence to be interpreted in both ways).

Pancake day: its about pancakes
